Jubilee session of the World Amber Council in Gdansk

From 28 to 30 June, leading research associate of the Amber Museum Zoya Kostyashova, one of the founders of the World Amber Council that celebrates its first 10-year jubilee this year, took part in the session of the council and made a report "Current News of the Amber Sector of Kaliningrad Oblast".

There were famous scientists and researchers, specialists and amber artists from the Baltic countries, the USA, Canada, Lebanon and Ukraine at the council.

Members of the Council made reports about the most interesting events that happened in scientific, museum and exhibition works in the sphere of amber in each country. There was a lively discussion on a question of the age of Baltic amber and other resins. Proceedings based on results of sessions in 2015 and 2016 will be published.

After the session of the Council, there was public reading for specialists and admirers of the sunstone to the current topics relating to amber deposits in the Baltic region, research of amber inclusions, its identification using contemporary research methods, as well as artistic amber treatment. Reporters were Polish and foreign specialists including Zoya Kostyashova, who delivered a lecture "Exploitation of amber deposits on the eastern coast of Chlapowo-Sambian delta, in Kaliningrad oblast of Russian Federation.

Zoya Kostyashova also participated in the ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Amber Museum in Gdansk. On behalf of the director and team of the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum, she congratulated colleagues to the anniversary and presented books about amber published by our museum as a gift.
