A gift for the museum's 40th anniversary

Opening of the Russia's only museum dedicated to the "gold" of the Baltics as a branch of the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art was held in 1979. It was an important event in the cultural life of the region.
"That was a New Year gift to the residents of the city. So on 29 December 1979, there was a huge line of people, who wanted to visit the museum. It went from the ticket office to the bus stop. Every day each of us conducted 4–5 guided tours, that lasted for 90 to 120 minutes, by the end of the day we lost our voices", – recounts the senior research associate at the time, now the director of the Amber Museum Tatiana Suvorova.
For the 40 years of its existence, the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum has become one of the bright cultural places of the city: its collection numbers in around 19000 depository items, attendance has increased up to 228 000 guests, 6182 guided tours, over 50 exhibitions and projects, and 718 events are held annually.
For the museum's anniversary, on 29 December individual visitors can visit the museum's permanent exposition and all the temporary exhibitions free of charge*. Everybody can also leave postcards with greetings and wishes in the hall.
*The action can not be applied to the excursion services and tourist groups. The reduced-price excursion sessions will be cancelled on this day.
