Winners' awarding of the contest "Magic of Amber"
18 January 2012
Press Office of the Amber Museum
Since the ancient times amber has attracted people with its astonishing beauty and mysterious properties. For the first time, "fashion" on this stone emerged in the Neolithic Age, about 6000 years ago. Back then, inhabitants of the Baltic coast made of it amulets, as well as beads and pendants, rings and tabs. And how many legends were made up about amber! In Rus of the Middle Ages, songs, tales and spells were composed, in which "the miraculous alatyr stone" was called "father of all stones".
There is great power in it, which can avert any trouble and bring happiness to a kind man.
The Amber Museum has offered children of Kaliningrad oblast to show in their drawings, paintings and works of decorative and applied art the magic that ancient people saw in amber and to compose own legends about it. Works for the contest are accepted until 20 January. They can be sent by post to the Amber Museum's address: Vasilevskiy Sq. 1, 236000 Kaliningrad, to the electronic mail firstname.lastname@example.org (in jpeg and doc formats) or bring to the museum personally.
This year, the contest is held within the social project "Light and Warmth for Children" in cooperation with the "INTER RAO - Electric Power Plants" — branch "Kaliningrad Thermal Power Plant 2". Authors of the best and most original works will receive prizes and presents from the general sponsor! Results of the contest will be announced in the Amber Museum on 21 January, Saturday, at 12.
After the winners' awarding ceremony, the exhibition of contest works "Magic of Amber" will be opened at the same place.
