Lecture "Jewellery Geometry: Square"

At the Amber Museum it will be told about the geometrical forms in jewellery on 15 June.

The lecture will be conducted by the art expert, deputy director for research of the museum, candidate of pedagogical sciences Irina Toropova within the project "Jewellery Encyclopedia".

Four-square is one of the most ancient symbols in the history of world culture. Perfect and simple form of this geometrical object gives the impression of stability, eternity, truth. In some pagan beliefs, square symbolizes the Earth and power. In jewellery a square has both symbolical and constructive role. Organization of household objects composition, costume and body adornments is often based on variations of this geometrical object.

There will be cultural and historical aspects of jewellery art pieces organization of which is thus or otherwise connected to the "regular quadrangle" in the lecture.
