Lecture series in the museum

On 20 October, lecture "Collection of jewellery and precious stones of the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution" was held within the lecture series "Jewellery Encyclopedia" in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum. It was conducted by the museum's deputy director for research, art expert, candidate of pedagogical sciences Irina Toropova.

Next lecture takes place on 17 November at 18.30. Its theme is "The art of glyptic. Cameos".

The audience will learn about one of the most ancient kind of arts – glyptic: carving on colour and precious stones. The specific expressive language of glyptic shaped in the Ancient Greece and Rome, is based on the virtuoso carving and beauty of precious material. This miniature art is featured in two forms: intaglios and cameos.

The lecturer will present the story of this kind of art, acquaint visitors with artworks of the past epochs from the biggest museums of Russia and East Europe, as well as with the artistry of contemporary masters.
