On 11 August the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum organised the art market "RampART". The event was held in the open space – the rampart behind the Dohna Tower.
The art market is timed to the Eighth International Biennial of Amber Art Works "Alatyr 2019".
The highlight of the day was the design market of jewellery made by Kaliningrad young craftsmen. They presented works made from glass in the Tiffany technique, from beads and Swarowski strasses, ceramic, minerals and antique dishes. Special attention was given to the jewellery with amber: there were minimalist earrings from white metals, from brass to the Prussian theme, as well as combined with wood. Only this day members of the vent could visit the exhibition "BOTANICA" by the reduced price.
There were master classes for guests of the event: designer of the MashAndHero project told about techniques of the contemporary embroidery, and every member made an own designer adornment. Artist Natalia Chernova introduced the basics of lettering and taught to create beautiful letter compositions. Great interest was aroused by the workshop by designer Cri Stof: those who managed to register for it, made drawings to the space theme on their T-shirts, jeans, and even socks.
Lovers to cut and glue took part in the Collage Laboratory, as well as in the creation of a tactile book for visually impaired children based on the motives of legends about the origin of amber. The museum team members will finish the book and give it to the library of the boarding school, where children with vision disorders study.
This day themed walks on the rampart were organised, it was possible to have a look at Königsberg using a binocular installed on the viewing platform of the Dohna Tower. If you didn't manage to visit these tours, don;t worry. Tours to the observation point of the Dohna Tower are held every day.
Outdoor enthusiasts took part in the cycle quest "Amber Pedals". Moving around the city, the cyclists solved tasks and visited the places in the city that are connected with the history of development of amber industry. Winners of the cycle quest received as gifts canvas bags with the scheme of the Dohna Tower and stickers with museum showpieces.
This year our partner was the project "Park Ring". On the rampart they set a Workshop of City Interventions for children and adults, and conducted a plain air that included exhibition of children's pictures, games, and creative tasks.
Museum team members taught the youngest gusts how to make amulets with amber, and pendants from brass, how to put together puzzles with images of the museum showpieces, and to make volumetric post cards with Dohna Tower.
Thanks to the good weather the event was visited by around 3000 people: they bought jewellery, listened to the music by DJ Morrison and DJ Greta Bowie, sat on plaids and enjoyed. The event was concluded by the concert of the Kaliningrad indie group Hellomishel.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our partners and volunteers, who played a very important role in the preparation and organisation of the art market. The next "RampART" will be held in summer 2020.
