On 17 November at 17.00, lecture "Philosophers about Amber", coincided with the World Philosophy Day, takes place in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum. It will be delivered by the museum's Chief Research Associate, Dr. Irina Polyakova.

Attracting people to the philosophical heritage is one of the goals of the World Philosophy Day, established by UNESCO in 2002. It is well-known that scientists of various spheres, physicians and pharmacologists, poets and founders of curiosities cabinets were thinking about the nature of amber for several centuries. Were philosophers interested in this subject? In which way are questions of nature of amber connected with the fundamental philosophical subject matters in the doctrines of Aristotle and Theophrastus, Francis Bacon and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz? Which philosophical ideas were famous authors of writings on amber fascinated by? And finally, why did the Prussian physician Severin Göbel the Elder name the worst kind of amber after the famous Epicurus school? Guests of the Amber Museum will be able to learn about it on 17 November.

Entrance is free.
