International Day of Friendship is one of the youngest holidays of the calendar. The General Assembly of United Nations made a decision to declare it on 27 April 2011 during its 65th session. The ideological basis for the new date were the Declaration and programme of activities in the sphere of the world culture, and International decade of the world culture and non-violence in the interests of the whole planet. The Organization of United Nations encourages governments, groups and organizations to celebrate this day in accordance with cultural traditions of different countries, and to host events and initiatives, which will contribute to strengthening of the international community and will be aimed to promote dialog between civilizations, solidarity, understanding and acceptance. Beside that, one of the goals of the International Friendship Day is to engage young people, including future leaders, in the public activities aimed at respectful perception of different cultures. Currently, events dedicated to promotion of the friendship and tolerable attitude to others are held in many countries of the world
