Press Office of the Amber Museum
On 15 September at 18.30, a lecture "Art nouveau jewellery art. Luis Masriera" within the lecture series "Jewellery Encyclopedia" is held in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum. It will be conducted by the museum's deputy director for research, art expert, candidate of pedagogical sciences Irina Toropova.
The oldest Spanish jewellery brand "Masriera" has been carrying its history since 1839. It is exactly the time when Luis Masriera (1872–1958) opened his first jewellery shop in Barcelona. Talented and forward-thinking artist and jeweller of the highest level. Masriera made a significant contribution to the appearance and evolution of the contemporary jewellery art of Spain and influenced shaping of the European art nouveau style – the most important art movement of the second half of the 19th century.
Traditional love towards avant guard themes and fantasy forms, use of the advanced technologies and innovations – these are the main distinctive features of the style that remained unchanged during the almost two-hundred-years long history of this jewellery house. Luis Masriera brought a new direction to the world of modernism characterized by influence of the Mediterranean and artful work with enamel, which made it known as "Barcelonian enamel".
The Masriera House can be proud of the fact that it produces the best jewellery enamel in the world. This technology was improved in the result of 150 years of continual experience and constant research. The technique of work with enamel – one of the secrets of the utter mastery of Masriera craftsmen – is passed on from generation to generation and is distinguished with its inimitable quality.
