В Музее состоится лекция «Великие металлы. Золото. Бронза»

A lecture "Great metals. Gold. Bronze" within the lecture series "Jewellery encyclopedia" takes place on 25 January at 11.00 in Kaliningrad Amber Museum. It will be conducted by the deputy director for research of the museum, art expert, candidate of padagogic sciences Irina Toropova.

Gold and bronze were known by the humankind since the earliest time. People started to use them in 5000 B.C. in places, where the young civilizations originated in - South Africa, Mesopotamia, Indus Valley, Etern Mediterranian.

Gold is popular with conoisseurs of jewellery art around the world thanks to its remarkable qualities. It is soft, heavy metal, which is distinct in high plasticity and is easily combined with silver and copper. As a result one gets from pale yellow to dark red alloys. And softness, plasticity, ductility remain the high level of quality.

Bronze is an allow based on copper, as usual with tin, alluminium, silicium, beryllium, plumbum and some other elements.

The most ancient bronze artefacts were found in 1897 near Kuban River (so called  Мaykop cilture).

Over time knowledge about consistent and malleable metal spread to Near East and Egypt, where bronze became one of the most impostant decorative materials.

Inspite of advent of new metals and alloys in the course of civilizations development, bronze remains this position. 

Aesthetic, artictic and cultural role of gold and bronze will be shown at the lecture based on works of decorative and applied art from collections of the leading museums of the world.
