In June-August 2013, the Fifth International Biennial of Amber Artworks will be held in the Kaliningrad Regional AMber Museum; it will include exhibition and contest, scientific and practical conference "Amber and its Imitations", educational programme, publishing of the catalogue.

The first international contest took place in 2005. Since that time every two years, Kaliningrad Amber Museum gathers scientists and researcherz, artists, leaders of the leading European museums. These meetings are very important: new creative ideas are born there, knowledge is shared, new contacts are made.

Traditionally, up to 10 countries participate in the contest, and these are not just Baltic ones, but also Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Latvia, where amber has held a specific place since the earliest times. Artists from France, Italy, Denmark have benn already included to the "amber circle", there were no traditions of working with the sunstone in these countries. It is also possible that after a long pause works of Japanese authors will be there to.

Theme of the cintest and exhibition is "AquaTerra". It is connected with the fact that UNESCO announced 2013 the International Year of Water Cooperation, which is rather relevant for the Baltic sea that many countries have access to.

Traditionally, an educational project will be realized within the biennial. All curators, members of the international jury will give workshops, deliver lectures in the Kaliningrad Art and Industrial College, where the Amber Museum has its target audience – students specializing in jewellery and design.
