"Through Space and Time"

On 27 May at 17.00, the exhibition "Through Space and Time" is opened in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum. The exposition will present works created by the German artist Vitaly Papst: lathe works, compositions made of wood using golden and silver foil, amber, mother-of-pearl, fossil plants and organisms. There are presented variations of usage of different lathe techniques including those developed by the author himself.

"As an experienced woodworker, wood artist and carver, I was deeply impressed or even overwhelmed, when I first saw turned works of art, – tells Vitaly Papst, – and, without hesitation, I tried to express my feelings and emotions in the same way. My scientific work in the sphere of chemistry of plant matter and my profound handiwork education helped.

Turnery wasn't always an independent art. Often a wood worker was just "a table legs maker" or produced the simplest household articles. Only in current times it became clear how many emotions can be shown this way. Various colors, structure of wood, which is often many centuries old, are very expressive".

Vitaly Papst was born in 1951 in Karabulak (Kazakhstan). In 1974, he graduated from the university in Tashkent majoring in chemistry. From 1974 to 1979 he worked as a research associate in the Institute of Chemistry of Plant Matter, from 1980 to 1998 – as an ebonist, technologist, interior designer. In 1998, he moved to Nuremberg, Germany.

Works created by the artist are in the collections of Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum, "Local Crafts House" (Salekhard), private collections in Canada, France, Germany, the Great Britain, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, the UAE, the USA.

The exhibition will work until 19 June 2016.
