Opening of the exhibition from Dagestan

Guests of the opening ceremony were able to get acquainted with works of decorative and applied art from collection of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S.Gamzatova at the museum's exhibition hall.

During the official part, the leading consultant of the Department for Arts, Museum and Educational Work in the Sphere of Culture Elena Kosheleva said that Dagestan has been known for its traditions in metal work since the old times, people know works of jewellery masters from the settlements Kubachi and Gotsatl.

Director of the Amber Museum Tatiana Suvorova particularly noted professional value of the exhibition for Kaliningrad artists, who will be able to have a close look at the prominent national color and high artistic level of Dagestan artworks.

Guests were greeted by the main keeper of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts Khatagi Amirkhanova. Head of the Department for Decorative and Applied Arts Jamila Radzhabova conducted a themed excursion and told about traditions of woman's and man's costume decoration. For instance, if a Dagestan girl was from the wealthy family, weight of her costume embroidered with silver pendants could be up to 6 kg. For man's costume decoration, masters made belts, pectoral fasteners and parade weapon.

Guests of the museum will be able to get acquainted with the best showpieces of the Dagestan jewellery art of the 17th–21st centuries until 19 February 2017.
