Opening of the exhibition within the First Regional Biennial of Photography dedicated to the memory of Mia Brachert takes place in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum on 29 January at 17.00. The Biennial is aimed to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the region. Research of the amber items from the museum's collection resulted in the idea to use them for creation of "photo art" pieces. Combination of creativeness of an amber-artist and a photographer can originate a new pieces of art having impressive spiritual potential.

Mia Brachert left a mark in the history of the Kaliningrad region as a photographer, in whose professional biography process of the creative reproduction of amber artworks had the key place.

Amber as an artistic material has a range of expressive properties, on which acknowledgement of its unique aesthetic possibilities is based. But exactly these properties make its "reputation" of a "difficult" object to take a photo of, and that is why amber work is means that reveal skills of a photographer and his ability to create a unique "photo image", discover other expressive sides of the object and material.

The artwork of the Kaliningrad artist Igor Brasyunas "Mask" created in 2004 (amber; carving, 11,5 x 9 x 3,4 cm) was chosen for the Regional Biennial of Photography to the memory of Mia Brachert in 2015.

Igor Brasyunas (1955 – 2004) was one of the best amber carvers of the Kaliningrad region; he participated in regional and international exhibitions. The composition "Mask" is made of amber, visual qualities of which include a great variety of textural, coloristic and light effects. This art piece is a round sculpture, it has many angles, that gives more formal and conceptional possibilities for interpretation of this object.

Every photo artist has submitted several works for the contest: black-and-white and colour realistic photos of the showpiece, also a result of the photo artist's creative interpretation of the object's image with possible usage of various photo effects.

Photographers of Kaliningrad and Kaliningrad region took part in the First Regional Biennial of Photography to the Memory of Mia Brachert.

Admission to the opening is free.
