Kaliningrad Amber Museum took part in the exhibition “Amber. Myths and Science”

Kaliningrad amber museum took part as a co-curator of exhibition “Amber. Myths and science” that was opened on 15 April in Paul Stradin museum for history of medicine in Riga (Latvia). Exposition is organized in a framework of programme “Riga – the European capital of culture”. All times sunstone were closely connected with secrets and legends and people believed that is had magic internals. The exhibition offers to visitors two sides of amber using in simple life and medical practice same magic and rational  from ancient rituals and middle ages mysticism to modern science  discoveries and achievements.

In exposition are items from collections of Paul Stradin museum for history of medicine, Latvian National historical museum, Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation,  Academic library and Institute of Latvian history of Latvian University, Turaida Castle, Art museum of Lithuania, Amber museums of Palanga and Kaliningrad and also Archeological museum of Italian region Basilicata.

Exhibition shows eternal value of Baltic gem and diversity of ways of its using. There are for example the unique amber dress in exposition which are made by Lithuanian masters, the weight of the dress is more than 4 kilograms. This dress has high popularity in world fashion capitals. Kaliningrad amber museum delivered to Riga 25 own items, among them are amber pieces with different colour shades and inclusions  and also unique works of XIX-ХХ centuries.
