On 23 April the Book Day is celebrated all around the world. For this event the Amber Museum holds the youth literary contest "Magic Word".

Amber has attracted people with its beauty and mysterious qualities since the ancientry. Many nations made up myths and legends about it, in Russ "white-burning alatyr stone" was mentioned in fairy-tales, songs and charms, in all times poets inspired by the beauty of this stone made poems about it. Today we are offering children of 10–17 years old to write their own works about amber – poems, tales, stories, essays…

The theme of the contest can be developed in various ways: a story about the origin of the Baltic gem, a tale about the miraculous stone and the magical properties, that amber was believed to have for many centuries, essay on the role of amber in modern culture, or a poem glorifying the beauty of the sun stone.

This year, on the occasion of the Amber Museum's 40th anniversary we have established a new category – a story in the name of a showpiece! Choose any showpiece from our museum and imagine, what it could tell to visitors, if it would speak, what it thinks about, what it could tell about itself. Stories submitted in this category will be considered separately.

You should send your works to the museum until 18 April 2019 to the e-mail prosvet@ambermuseum.ru with "Contest" in the topic field (.doc) or bring personally to the Amber Museum to the Department for Scientific- and Museum-Educational Work (museum administration, office 20). The awarding ceremony takes place in the Amber Museum on 23 April.
