The International Day of Friendship is one of the youngest holidays in the calendar. Decision about its celebration was made by the UN General Assembly on 27 April 2011 during its 65th session. Ideological basis for the new date was Declaration and Programme of Action in a Culture of Peace and International Decade of Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in the interests of the whole planet. The United Nations Organization encouraged governments, international organizations and civil society groups to celebrate this day according to the cultural traditions of each country and to hold events, activities and initiatives that contribute to the efforts of the international community towards promoting a dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation. The UNO resolution places particular emphasis importance of the new date in strengthening of friendship between different nations. "Friendship between nations, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire  peace efforts and build bridges between communities that respect cultural diversity", – is written in the document. Besides one of the goals of the International Friendship Day is to involve young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity. At present time events, connected with the promotion of friendship and tolerant attitude towards people around,  are held in many states of the world annually.
